Duties and Responsibilities of Academic Council
The Academic Council is the principal academic body of a college, responsible for maintaining education standards and supervising all academic policies, including teaching, evaluation, and research. It acts as the final authority on academic matters, approving regulations, and recommending policies for the smooth conduct of the college.
Functioning
The Council is usually chaired by the Principal. It includes senior faculty members and external experts (from industry, education). It holds meetings, often once a month or more frequently if necessary, to pass resolutions on institutional importance. The Academic Council holds the exclusive responsibility for all academic matters.
Curriculum & Planning
Prescribing courses of study and determining the working principles of the college based on the recommendations of the Directorate of Collegiate Education.
Academic Standards & Policies
Establishing regulations regarding student admissions and academic qualifications as per directions given DCE.
Examination Management
Overseeing the conduct of internal examinations and ensuring the maintenance of evaluation standards prescribed by Bharathidasan University.
Academic Supervision
Supervising the academic work of the institution, including methods of instruction, teaching coordination, and research promotion.
Institutional Improvement
Recommending the creation of teaching positions, establishing new departments, and promoting research.
Institutional Audit
Implementing and monitoring departmental academic and administrative audit processes.
Extracurricular Coordination
Supervising the functioning of the central library, co-curricular activities, and fostering an environment for innovation.
